Chairman’s Report for 2007 / 2008This has been my first year as Chairperson and this year we have held six branch meetings, as well as a project workshop meeting for Project FLEE. Feedback from attendees has been good and they have had plenty of opportunity to ask questions of the speakers. I would like to thank the other members of the committee who have helped me with delivering the programme of meetings, without whom it would have not been possible to run the programme. This last year, the branch committee consisted of: Chairperson Sue Jardine Vice Chairperson Ron Kumar Hon Secretary Ron Kumar Hon Treasurer Mike Geoghegan Publicity Officer Sue Jardine Webmaster David Frankl Members Beverley Harris Narinder Shinmar Ron Kumar is also the branch representative on the South East Region Committee (SERC). Events this year: Our programme started in September last year, with David Adamson from BSI and Gordon Hawley introducing the way in which one can get involved in producing standards. As we had to call a halt to the proceedings before the presentation was finished, because we were over time, David Adamson has agreed to return at a future date. In October, Ron Kumar presented Project FLEE (Furthering Links with Educational Establishments). This project aims to publicise the CQI at branch level to local educational colleges/universities with the aim of promoting Quality, gaining more members for the CQI, providing access to local speakers and increasing attendance at meetings. A further project workshop meeting has been held, in April 2008, and the research into local areas to identify educational establishments, retaining the details in a database, has begun. If any members are interested in joining the project team, then please do get in contact with Ron Kumar (kumar111@btinternet.com). The November presentation, on Food Safety and Quality, was given by Catherine Sansom of Premier Foods, who stepped in at the last minute to replace our original speaker, and gave some very interesting case histories, as well as a thorough discussion of the regulations relating to food safety. In February, Robert Oakley of Qualsys Ltd. presented the flexible EQMS software, used for an integrated approach to compliance across multiple standards, such as ISO 9000, Health and Safety, Environmental and the Information Security standard. In March, Ole Jonny Klakegg spoke eloquently on the obligatory Norwegian Quality System for publicly funded projects and challenges in the front-end of major public investment projects. Tonight, we have Michael Cousins of Triaster Ltd. speaking about the Triaster Process Library Solution software for business improvements. Website Our branch website is still www.london-sw-branch-iqa.org.uk however the CQI have also started to incorporate branch website details on the CQI based website. This is not always kept fully up-to-date by the CQI at present but we are hopeful that it will be fully operational in the near future. Important: Please do inform us of changes to your email address. This is the main form of contact that we use and once it has changed we have lost contact with you. Any changes to meetings are communicated in this way and so it is vital that this information is current. Branch futureWe have some plans for next year’s programme already, which include a speaker from local government on Environmental Management, a speaker on Document Management/Disaster Recovery and a speaker on Positive Deviance (as seen in a past issue of Quality World). If any members have any suggestions and contacts which would allow us to organise a site visit please get in contact with me (graemesue@jard.fsworld.co.uk), or any member of the committee. Further project workshop meetings for Project FLEE may be organised. I very much look forward to seeing you, and many more of your colleagues, at future meetings, Sue JardineChairperson, London SW Branch CQI Home: 01895 233178 Office: 01753 666363 Email: graemesue@jard.fsworld.co.uk
