Chairman’s Report for 2008 / 2009This is my second year as Chairperson and this year we have held 5 branch meetings. Feedback from attendees has been positive and there has been plenty of opportunity to ask questions of each speaker. We often welcome guests to our branch meetings and would be happy to see more of your colleagues who wish to attend a particular branch meeting. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the other members of the committee who have been invaluable in enabling the programme of meetings to be delivered. This year the branch committee consisted of: Chairperson Sue Jardine Vice Chairperson Ron Kumar Hon Secretary Ron Kumar Hon Treasurer Mike Geoghegan Publicity Officer Sue Jardine Webmaster David Frankl Members Andre Brown William Villet Beverley Amos (previously Harris) Eros Mungal Ron Kumar is also the branch representative on the South East Region Committee (SERC). Events this year: Our Programme started in September with Anthony Weil of Iron Mountain speaking about “Archiving, data retention and record management”. Information on Iron Mountain can be found on their website: www.ironmountain.co.uk. Information on the Chartered Quality Professional status and the expectations of the CQI can be found on their website: www.thecqi.org. In November, Russell Price, of the Continuity Forum, spoke on the Business Continuity Standard: BS25999 and gave many interesting case studies illustrating how an up-to-date practical plan can prevent a disaster adversely affecting businesses and how disaster can ruin even large companies where disaster planning has not been fully implemented. Information on the Continuity Forum can be found on their website: www.continuityforum.org. In March, Alistair Baglee of Worley Parsons, spoke on environmental issues and quality, giving a new, economic, slant on the provision of quality and why it is often good economics to consider the environmental impact of engineering projects and other projects. Information on Woodward-Lewis can be found on the website: www.woodward-lewis.co.uk and the Quality World article can be found on http://www.woodward-lewis.co.uk/pdfs/qw%20Lewis_sept07_web.pdf. Website Please inform the CQI if you find it difficult to locate branch information on the CQI website (www.thecqi.org). Our original website (www.london-sw-branch-iqa.org.uk) is still in operation and is updated regularly. If there is any information you would like to see added to the website please let us know. Branch future The level of funding of South Eastern Regions for 2009 is unclear. Details of the future programme for 2009/2010 will be communicated solely by email. It is vital that this information is current because this is our main method of contact, communicating any changes to meetings and other information; once it has changed we have lost contact with you.
