We would like to request your input
regarding speakers and topics for future CQI branch meetings. If you have a
particular topic that our branch members would like to hear about or know of
a particularly good speaker then please let me know, via email (graemesue@jard.fsworld.co.uk).
Please find below a list of
Chartered Quality Institute London South West Branch events
happening between October 2009 and May 2010. Please note the venues
alternate between the Spirit Conference Centre in Slough and Uxbridge
College in Uxbridge in order to be convenient to a large proportion of
branch members, starting with the first meeting at Uxbridge College in
October 2009, which begins at a slightly earlier time than the meetings in
Slough. The meetings are free, a light buffet is provided before the meeting
starts and meetings attract CQI CPD certificates, on request.
Chairperson, Chartered Quality Institute London South West Branch
This event
will be held at Spirit Conference Centre, Slough 7.15pm (for 7.30pm
start) Tuesday 18th May. There has been a change from the advertised speaker and topic. Our speaker will be Geoff Oliver and the topic is "There are No Root Causes". Geoff Oliver is an independent quality management consultant and a Fellow of the CQI. He provides a quality manager sharing service to about 20 clients in the Thames Valley area. The service has been running for over 20 years. Clients that use this service operate in a wide range of business sectors. One of Geoff’s long standing interests is philosophy; he organises meetings for a group of amateur philosophers and is a member of the Philosophical Society run by Oxford University Department for Continuing Education. There are No Root Causes: This talk is different from that usually offered at CQI events. There is no attempt here to promote anything. It is not about a quality tool, a standard or the successful implementation of a system. This is much more important; this is a talk about a concept that is fundamental to the quality practitioner. With a little bit of physics and a little bit of philosophy, an attempt will be made to convince the audience that there is no such thing as a root cause.The meeting is free, a light buffet is provided before the meeting starts and CQI CPD certificates are available, on request.
